Ascension of Jesus Christ: spiritual symbol and national ritual
On May 17, the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church celebrated the Ascension of Jesus Christ 
After his tortures, Christ appeared alive in front of his disciples and spoke of the Kingdom of God. One day, while eating with them, he asked them not to leave Jerusalem, but wait for the Lord’s pledge, which, he said “you heard from me. John was baptized with water, but you will soon be baptized by the Holy Spirit.”

An exhibition of works by Georgian-Armenian painters called “With the Calling of My Homeland” opened at the Artists’ Union of Armenia recently. The event was organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

Thoughts and meetings in April
April can truly be considered a month of literature. The 6th Pan-Armenian Conference of Writers organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the Union of Writers of Armenia kicked off on April 20, and the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh celebrated the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing on April 22. UNESCO has declared Yerevan as the World Book Capital in 2012. In Yerevan these days are many guests from abroad, including participants of the Pan-Armenian Conference of Writers, and some of them sat down for interviews with “Hayern Aysor”’s correspondent.

“Armenian Genocide” monograph released in Bucharest
The Political Science Association of Armenia reports the recent release of the monograph “Armenian Genocide” by highly distinguished genocide expert, correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, doctor of historical sciences, Professor Nikolay Hovhannisyan in Romania. The monograph was translated from French to Romanian by sisters Taguhi and Madeleyn Karakashyan (Genocidul Armean, Bucaresti, 2012, 112 pp.).

First step of Turkey’s “new” policy on Diaspora Armenians
Turkish presses, including Istanbul’s Marmara Daily, report information regarding a meeting called “Armenian-Turk Reconciliation” held in Washington on April 12. The presses present the meeting as the first step in Turkey’s policy to find Armenians in favor of the establishment of dialogue with Turks in the United States and establish dialogue with them”.

HINUNK: Whit Sunday or Pentecost
The fifty days between Easter and Whit Sunday is called Hinunk (period of the past), meaning, the past 50 days. The fifty days are devoted to the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and there is no Lent on these days.
